Women Who Make Festival at Hardwick Hall, celebrating creativity, community and women’s stories.

Celebrate the power of women who make, inspire and transform at the Women Who Make Festival at Hardwick Hall – a day-long celebration of creativity, community and shared experience set against the remarkable legacy of Bess of Hardwick.

Taking place in the lead-up to Bess’s 500-year anniversary, this special festival reflects on her influence as a powerful patron, maker and architectural visionary, and invites us to consider how women’s creativity, labour and leadership continue to shape the world today.

Located outside the pay barrier, the festival is open to all – no National Trust membership required.

Expect a vibrant and welcoming day featuring:

✨ Artist showcase / makers’ market

✨ Talks and conversations with inspiring creatives

✨ Demonstrations and live making

✨ Creative walks exploring architecture, landscape and natural materials

✨ A large-scale Dare to Dream community sewing bee

Highlights will include a showcase of Blackwell Brides by Platform31, celebrating women’s lives through dress and shared skill; a conversation with artist Sophie Gresswell and the Hardwick collections curator; and a talk with Cathy Newbery on UPFRONT.

More programme details, including timings and additional activities, will be announced soon.

Whether you're a maker, creative, or simply curious, this is an opportunity to connect, take part and celebrate the enduring power of women who make.

Entry is free – register today to stay updated on the programme!

Please note: Some activities, including walks and talks, will have limited capacity and may require advance booking. Details will be shared as the programme is announced.
