HOW TO GET AROUND

Whether you're travelling to Derbyshire or making a journey within the county, here's our guide to getting around.

All the Festival events taking place across the six Hubs happen on different dates and times, so please check the What's On page for event details.

Use this handy journey planner to discover the best route between two locations by bus or train.

Alternatively, a Derbyshire Wayfarer is valid on almost all bus and train services operating in Derbyshire and Derby (see the Derbyshire County Council’s website for restrictions). Derbyshire Wayfarer tickets are available to buy on board buses on certain routes, or online from TravelMaster.

Buy your bus tickets from the driver when you board, or book ahead for great discounts – one day and seven day tickets may save you money. You can book your train tickets online via National Rail’s Journey Planner.

TRAVEL ON TO THE PEAK DISTRICT AND DERBYSHIRE DALES

If you're in the area, make sure to take advantage of Derbyshire’s astonishing landscapes including the majority of the Peak District National Park and Derbyshire Dales.

This map of the Peak District includes the Derbyshire towns located within it, many of which are reachable by train, and interconnected by bus. The official Peak District National Park website contains a wealth of information on visiting, including things to do, public transport and access.

By train

You can book your train tickets online via National Rail’s Journey Planner.

From Sheffield

In addition to the Derbyshire stations on Northern Rail’s Hope Valley Line to Manchester, trains from Sheffield station also call at Chesterfield, Matlock and Derby, with links on to surrounding towns.

From Nottingham

The East Midlands Railway line from Nottingham to Matlock calls at Derbyshire stations including Long Eaton, Duffield, Belper, Ambergate, Whatstandwell, Cromford and Matlock Bath.

From Manchester

Northern Rail’s Hope Valley Line from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield passes through the county, calling at Derbyshire stations including New Mills Central, Chinley, Edale, Hope, Bamford, Hathersage and Grindleford.

There are regular services from Manchester Piccadilly to Glossop in the North West of the county.

The Northern line train from Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton calls at Derbyshire stations including New Mills Newtown, Furness Vale, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Dove Holes.

From Birmingham

There are regular services from Birmingham New Street to Derby, with excellent links onwards into Derbyshire.

From Stoke-on-Trent

There are regular services from Stoke-on-Trent to Derby, with excellent links onwards into Derbyshire.

From London 

Trains from London St Pancras reach Derby in under two hours, continuing onwards to Chesterfield.

There are regular services from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly or Stoke-on-Trent, with excellent links onwards into Derbyshire.

By bus

Buy your bus tickets from the driver when you board, or book ahead for great discounts – one day and seven day tickets may save you money.

The Stagecoach Gold X17 routes from Sheffield stop at Chesterfield, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Wirksworth and Cromford Mills.

By car

Derbyshire is situated close to the UK’s main motorway network, including the M1 and M6. The M62, M42, M60, M56, M67 and M18 can also be used to reach the area.

When travelling by car, be aware of busy routes to popular locations during the school holidays.

If you’re travelling by electric car, use the Zap Map app to find your nearest charging point.

Most towns have council run car parks, many of which are pay to park. There is on-street parking in many towns; always check payment and parking terms as some have restricted parking times.
