Workshop

Explore stitching as storytelling during a relaxed, drop-in, hands-on embroidery session as part of Blackwell Brides.

Join artist Lise Bennett for a relaxed, hands-on embroidery session as part of Blackwell Brides. Explore stitching as storytelling, drawing on traditions where embroidery carries love, memory and identity across generations.

Inspired by a local Blackwell story of a hand-embroidered handkerchief exchanged during a paused courtship, this workshop reflects how stitched objects can hold messages across distance and time.Historically, embroidery in working-class Britain combined practical marking of household linen with symbolic motifs of love, luck and remembrance, often linked to courtship and marriage traditions.

Programmed by Platform Thirty1

Part of the Women Who Make Festival at Hardwick Hall.
