Walk

Step into the story of Bess of Hardwick through the remarkable buildings and landscape she shaped.

This guided walk explores the architectural evolution of the site, from the Old Hall to the iconic New Hall, revealing how ambition, status and design come together in stone.

Beginning at Visitor Reception, the tour takes you through the Stableyard – uncovering its changing role over time – before moving on to the Old Hall to examine its structure and origins. You’ll then walk across to the New Hall, where the scale, craftsmanship and vision of Bess’s later home come into focus. Along the way, discover the influence of Robert Smythson and the rise of English Renaissance architecture, with close-up details including masonry techniques and historic masons’ marks.

Booking is essential.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and if any assistance is required please contact us through Eventbrite so we can best plan your support.

Spaces are limited, booking required via the add-on tickets on the Festival Eventbrite listing.
