A fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into the world of textile conservation at the National Trust.
Join Terri Dewhurst for a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into the world of textile conservation at the National Trust. Originally from Derbyshire, Terri will share her journey from studying fashion design to conserving some of the UK’s most treasured historic textiles.
This informal talk will explore the work of the National Trust Textile Conservation Studio in Norfolk, including projects connected to Hardwick Hall and other historic properties across the country. Alongside stories from the studio, visitors will have the chance to see live stitching demonstrations and discover the specialist materials and techniques used to preserve historic fabrics, from delicate furnishings to grand state beds.
A rare opportunity to hear from a leading conservator working at the heart of heritage, craft and fashion history.
3.30pm to 4pm
After the talk, stay for an informal drop-in session. You will have the chance to chat with Terri, ask questions about textile conservation and heritage careers, and see close-up demonstrations of conservation.
