Step into the world of traditional handspinning and discover how yarn was made before the industrial revolution
A demonstration of traditional handspinning methods, using an antique Great Wheel and more modern treadle wheel, representing how yarns were spun at various points in history, prior to the industrial revolution.
Visitors will be able to watch yarn being spun throughout the day, from locally sourced sheep's fleece. They will also be able to see and feel yarns made from a variety of interesting and unusual fibres and have a go at spinning on a drop spindle
Diane Fisher ((Mummuring Wheell) is a handspinner, craft demonstrator and spinning tutor with over 20 years experience working with wool and many other fibres. She spins on commission, producing bespoke yarns for individuals, business and students, regularly teaches spinning workshops around Derbyshire and surrounding areas and can often be seen at shows demonstrating on an antique Great Wheel
