With Laura Burrill | Every Stitch A Story

Discover The Brailsford Bayeux, an extraordinary 10.85-metre-long community embroidery created by people from across Brailsford and Ednaston.

The project was commissioned by Brailsford and Ednaston Churches Together to celebrate and commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. Facilitated by textile artist Laura Burrill and supported by volunteers, it invited people across the community to contribute to something much bigger than any one person could make alone.

Children from Brailsford Pre-school and Brailsford C of E Primary School were among the many people who took part, alongside individuals and families from across the community. Contributors created embroidered and patchwork pieces which were brought together to form the finished work.

At almost 11 metres long, the result is both a remarkable piece of community-made textile art and a record of collective creativity, filled with individual stitches, contributions and stories.

Take your time to follow the textile from beginning to end, look closely at its details and discover what a community can create when many hands come together.

About Laura Burrill

Laura Burrill is a Derbyshire-based textile artist whose work brings together textiles, heritage, storytelling and community participation.

Through Every Stitch A Story, she creates and facilitates projects that explore the stories held within people and places through stitch and shared making.

Laura is also one of the artists leading the Dare to Dream Sewing Bee at Women Who Make, so visitors can move from seeing the possibilities of community-made textiles to contributing to a new collective work themselves.
