Join author, changemaker and Fashion Revolution co-founder Carry Somers for a fascinating journey through the hidden histories of fibres and dyes, and discover how fashion and the natural world have always been deeply intertwined.

Drawing on her book The Nature of Fashion, Carry will travel across landscapes and centuries – from some of the earliest known twisted plant fibres to new research that challenges some of our assumptions about natural fibres.

Along the way, she’ll explore the plants and communities behind our clothing, past and present, and ask what it might mean to make clothes with nature rather than against it.

What can the materials and making traditions of the past teach us about the clothes we wear today? And how might reconnecting fashion with the natural world help us imagine a more circular future?

About Carry Somers

Carry Somers is an author, changemaker and social entrepreneur whose work connects fashion, nature and creativity.

She co-founded Fashion Revolution, the global fashion activism movement, and founded Pachacuti, the world’s first Fair Trade certified company. She is currently Director of League of Artisans and an expert consultant for the UN International Trade Centre.

Her research interests include microfibre pollution and the environmental persistence of natural textile fibres. Her book The Nature of Fashion journeys across landscapes and centuries, tracing the roots of plant fibres and dyes and revealing how choices made in the past continue to shape the world around us today.
