Drop in throughout the day

Sometimes the most beautiful things begin with scraps.

Inspired by the Japanese textile traditions of sashiko and boro, you'll build scraps of cloth onto a denim base before using simple hand stitching to hold the layers together.

There are no rules – play with colour, texture and thread and see where your stitches take you.

You'll leave with a finished patch ready to mend a hole, personalise something you already own or simply keep as a small piece of slow-stitch art – along with a skill you can use again and again.

About Netty Lou

Netty Lou is a Derbyshire-based textile maker and visible mender with more than 35 years' experience in fashion, dressmaking and textiles.

Her creative practice, Story of Things, is rooted in the belief that the things we already own are worth caring for. Inspired by sashiko and boro textile traditions, she teaches people to mend, alter and re-love their garments through workshops, community projects and mending kits.

Netty is also the artist behind The Ripple Effect, the community-created wearable textile installation on display at the festival.

Who is it for?

All levels are welcome and no sewing experience is needed.

All materials are provided.

Scrap, Stitch & Mend is free and drop-in. No separate booking is required.
