What stories are held within the walls of Masson Mill?

Join Creative Writing researcher Suzanne Helen Reynolds for an intimate creative writing circle inspired by the mill, the Derwent Valley and the stories that flow through this remarkable place.

Using your own observations, thoughts and experiences, you'll gather words and ideas before working together to weave them into a shared poem inspired by Masson Mill.

This isn't about being a poet or finding the perfect words. It's an invitation to look, notice, listen and respond – and discover what happens when individual voices and experiences come together.

By the end of the session, the group will have created something unique: a collective piece of writing shaped by the people in the room and the place around them.

There is also a second Masson Mill Poetry Circle at 10.30am–11.30am.

About Suzanne

Suzanne Helen Reynolds is a final-year Postgraduate Research student in Creative Writing at the University of Derby.

As part of her thesis, she has produced an extended prose poem that takes a bedbound protagonist on an imaginary journey along the Derwent Valley from Matlock Bath to Derby.

Suzanne is also a member of the Arkwright Society at Cromford Mills and the Research Group of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

Who is it for?

Everyone is welcome.

You don't need to consider yourself a writer or have any previous writing experience – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
