A hands-on collage workshop exploring local mining heritage through layered paper and sculptural tunnel books.

Jenny Stevenson is a mixed media collage artist based in Derby, UK. Her place-based practice explores memory, architecture, and community stories, with a focus on former factories and local industries. She works with materials connected to each site, such as fabric offcuts, leather, metal, and printed papers, to create layered pieces that reflect the textures and character of buildings. Research and conversation are central to her process, with visits to industrial sites, museums, and archives, alongside conversations with community members. She regularly shares her practice through workshops, courses, guest talks and podcast appearances, alongside her ongoing studio work.

Jenny will be working with the local community on a collaborative project inspired by the mining heritage of Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, to make tunnel books using layered paper, collage, simple structures and light . These sculptural books will reflect underground spaces, hidden labour and the passage of time and will be displayed as part of the festival programme.

Come and have a go at making your own tunnel book with Jenny at the festival.
