A celebration of heritage, folklore and making
Join us in Glossop for a springtime celebration of heritage, folklore and making — reviving lost stories, lost skills, and the spirit of Beltane renewal.
The festivities begin with the Lady of the Loom awakening ceremony in Norfolk Square, as our majestic puppet emerges from winter slumber. Experience live music on the Springtime Stage throughout the day and help weave stories into a community hazel structure at Glossop Arts Project’s Springtime Weaving Revival workshop. Enjoy The Bureau’s yarn bomb display, cosy up in Val & Friends’ Community Living Room for their Trash to Flash eco crafty party or relax in the listening lounge with stories celebrating everyday making.
Immerse yourself in Glossop's heritage at Partington Theatre’s Storytelling Takeover, where local historians share tales of old gods and strange lights across Longdendale Valley. Families can craft miniature artworks at the Cabinet of Treasures workshop, explore Flash Folk creative writing, or enjoy Film Cuts Club screenings. At the Market Hall, browse 25 talented makers at the Springtime Makers Market and discover the Dark Peak Photo Exhibition showcasing season-inspired photography. Outside, marvel at Thingamabob – Matt Pang's ingenious street show featuring a handcrafted, self-exploding Rube Goldberg-style contraption blending circus, clowning, and mechanical mayhem.
The day ends with the Lady of the Loom’s Celebration Parade – a joyful procession through Norfolk Square celebrating the season’s warmth and abundance.
