Glossop
Discover Glossop
Connected to Manchester by train and situated at the gateway to the Peak District, Glossop is ideally placed for a combination of culture and countryside walks. Located at the foot of the famous Snake Pass, popular hiking routes out from the town centre include Black Hill, Bleaklow, Kinder Scout and the haunting B29 US air force bomber crash site. Be sure to spend some time in the historic Old Glossop conservation area too, with its stone cottages and medieval market cross – as well as the restaurants, bars and cafés that have seen the town hailed as something of a foodie destination.
Keep an eye out for productions at the tiny Partington Theatre, pack a picnic for the scenic surrounds of Manor Park – or just glory in following in the footsteps of Glossop’s famous former residents, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, writer Hilary Mantel and artist L.S. Lowry, who made his home in the nearby Mottram-in-Longdendale.
